The Chipata City Council Public Health Department has launched a phased clean-up exercise targeting all identified illegal dumping sites across the district. Council Public Relations Officer, Joan Thokozile-Zulu, confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday that the operation has begun in Kapata Ward, marking the first phase of the district-wide effort. Zulu said the initiative was being conducted as a preventive public health measure aimed at reducing the risk of disease outbreaks associated with accumulated waste.

“Timely removal of waste is critical in safeguarding the health and well-being of residents,” she stated. “Today, as the first day of the operation, the Public Health team has begun work in the Kapata area behind the GRZ Guest House, near Kapata Clinic, Mpezeni Park Primary School and Kaunda Square,” Zulu said. She said the clean-up would be rolled out to other wards in phases until all illegal dumping sites across the district are cleared.

Zulu further appealed to residents to cooperate with Council teams and refrain from illegal waste disposal to maintain a clean and healthy environment.
