Sweden-based women’s footballer Faith Chinzimu has become the first Malawian to reach a European club final. Her top Swedish-club BK Hacken reached the 2025/26 Europa Women’s final after booting out German side Eintracht Frankfurt Women 3-1 on aggregate to set up a final against fellow Swedish side Hammarby. Despite losing the second leg 1-0 at home, BK Hacken still punched their ticket to the final after winning the first leg 3-0 away.
Chinzimu, who scored a historic brace when the Scorchers beat Angola 2-0 to qualify for the Wafcon for the first time in November last year, started on the bench in the second leg. She was not available for comment yesterday, but National Women’s Football Association chairperson Adelaide Migogo said they are happy for Chinzimu. “Faith keeps on breaking records and we are proud of her significant progress in Europe.
She keeps flying Malawi’s flag high,” she said. Chinzimu’s first goal in her debut for BK Hacken was also in the same tournament towards the end of last year. Meanwhile, her France-based compatriot Tabitha Chawinga is also on the verge of making a Uefa Women’s Champions League final if her team Olympique Lyonnais beat reigning champions Arsenal Women in the semi-finals.
