Haulin spokesperson and community liaison officer Roderick Moyo confirmed that the company was ploughing back to assist the locl authority in road works. “We are collaborating on road resurfacing efforts, specifically targeting Ngena following damage from the 2024 rainy season,” he said. “We are currently engaged in a project to resurface the 10km unpaved road leading to St Peter’s for which we supply 500 litres of diesel to refuel our operational vehicles and machinery. “Currently, trucks are dumping the road filler. ”Moyo said the company had donated 50 solar-powered street lights for installation along Ngena Road in Pumula North’s ward 17. “Hualin Investments is pleased to announce the procurement and a donation of 50 solar-powered street lights for installation along Ngena Road in ward 17,” he said. “This significant initiative, developed in collaboration with local residents during last year’s discussions, will greatly enhance the area’s safety and visibility. ”Haulin was given the nod to set up a quarry mine by the Bulawayo City Council (BCC) in 2021.
The company is conducting quarry mining behind Pumula High, although some residents were initially against the venture.
The residents were accusing the miner of contaminating the environment and damaging their homes, which are developing cracks due to blasting activities at the quarry.
Residents once considered taking legal action against the miner and petitioning Parliament to stop the company from setting up a quarry plant in the residential suburb.
Moyo, however, said the company now enjoyed good relations with residents after addressing their concerns. “We are also providing financial assistance to students across nine schools in the ward to cover Ordinary Level examination registration and outstanding school fees for some students,” he said.
