The Spanish joins on a two-year deal, replacing club legend Pontsho ‘Piro’ Moloi, who parted ways with the club last week. Speaking at his unveiling this morning, Torreira said it was an honour to join Chiefs and that he embraces the pressure that comes with the role. He added that his understanding of the club, its players and the local football landscape puts him in good stead for the challenge.

Club president, Stanton Fredericks said the appointment aligns with Chiefs’ five-year strategic plan, with Torreira tasked with securing a top three finish this season, while a cup triumph is considered a bonus. Torreira brings international experience, having coached in Europe, Central America and Asia. He joins a technical team comprising Sekhana Koko (first assistant), Alex Malete (second assistant) and newly appointed goalkeeper coach, Aubrey Vilakazi.

A holder of a UEFA Pro Licence, Torreira said his philosophy is built on attacking, possession-based football, underpinned by solid defensive organisation. His first test will be at home against Extension Gunners when the league resumes next weekend.
