A 22-year-old man from Chatsworth,Keith Jeremiah Govender, has died after a month-long battle in hospital following a brutal stabbing incident during a card game. His death raises serious questions about the ongoing investigation and the implications for the accused.

Govender had been fighting for his life after being stabbed in the head, which left him with severe brain injuries. He passed away in hospital after weeks of treatment and multiple medical complications following the attack. Govender was admitted to hospital in critical condition after he was allegedly stabbed by a man he knew while they were playing cards.

The weapon reportedly pierced through both sides of his brain, leaving him with devastating head injuries. He underwent emergency brain surgery and was placed in the Intensive Care Unit, where doctors worked to stabilise him. After spending time in the ICU, Govender was later moved out of the unit as his condition showed signs of improvement.

However, his recovery took a serious turn when he developed a severe infection and had to be readmitted to the ICU. At the time, his father, Ashlin Govender, shared that doctors had detected a bloodstream infection that had begun affecting other organs, including his chest and kidneys. Medical teams started intensive antibiotic treatment in an attempt to control the infection.

Despite efforts by doctors to treat the complications, Govender ultimately succumbed to his injuries after spending more than a month in hospital. The accused in the case, Mahendra Ramadhar, has appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court following the stabbing and was granted bail of R1,000 on a charge of attempted murder. It is expected that this charge will now change.
