Chaos in Church: Apostle Bashed at Pulpit for Impregnating University Student
A Harare church service ended in chaos on Sunday when a group of angry relatives stormed the pulpit and attacked the preacher, accusing him of impregnating a university student and then asking her to terminate the pregnancy.
The man at the centre of the drama is Apostle Trust Zvikomborero Chakona of Grace Life Embassy, who was ambushed mid-sermon at his church along Robert Mugabe Road in the Harare CBD. Witnesses say the attackers, believed to be relatives of the young woman involved, ripped his clothes and disrupted the service in full view of congregants and passersby.
The student, only identified as Jean, claims the trouble began when the church leader instructed her to get rid of the baby. When she refused, she says he started ignoring her and eventually blocked all communication.
She said her family only took matters into their own hands after multiple peaceful attempts to engage him failed.
“Apostle Chakona denied responsibility after I refused to take his orders to abort the pregnancy.
From there, he started to find some excuses and blocked my contacts. My relatives decided to unceremoniously visit his church after several attempts to meet him were in vain,” she said.
She also accused the pastor of lying about his marital status and leading her on with promises of marriage.
“His statements that I seduced him and demanded to have sex with him are malicious and provoking. If he knew his position, why did he fail to resist as a man of the cloth? He never told me that he got married because our relationship started sometime in June last year, and he was promising to marry me.”
