Chakwera concedes defeat and congratulates Mutharika Story by Oleen Ndori, Foreign Desk EditorOUTGOING Malawian President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, has conceded defeat in the September 16 General Election and congratulated President-elect Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika.Dr Chakwera said he accepts the results released by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and will also abide by the official announcement once it is made.He acknowledged that while the outcome may be disappointing to his supporters, he remains grateful for the trust and backing he received during his candidacy.The outgoing President pledged to ensure a peaceful and seamless transfer of power that safeguards peace and the will of Malawians.Dr Chakwera also thanked Malawians for conducting themselves in a peaceful, orderly, and lawful manner during the elections.He called on citizens to extend the same support they gave him to President-elect Mutharika, as the country transitions to new leadership.
