A Grade Nine learner from Badirile Secondary School in Khutsong, Carletonville, tragically died yesterday after being stabbed, allegedly by a Grade 10 learner,reportsCarletonville Herald. “Preliminary reports indicate an altercation occurred between two learners on school grounds yesterday morning, during which a 17-year-old Grade 10 learner allegedly stabbed a Grade Nine learner, causing severe injuries. The injured learner was rushed to a local medical facility and sadly succumbed to his injuries,” says Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) spokesperson Steve Mabona.
Mabona adds that the school has started disciplinary action against the alleged perpetrator, while police are investigating. The GDE has also dispatched its psychosocial support unit to visit the school today to provide support to the affected learners and educators. “We are devastated by this tragic loss of life and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and the Badirile Secondary School community,” says Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane.
“We strongly discourage any acts of violence among learners, as such actions have irreversible consequences.
