The heat was is forecasted to persist until Friday. An extreme heatwave is hitting Cape Town but the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management said no heat-related emergencies have been reported yet. The South African Weather Service issued a heatwave advisory expected to persist throughout the week.

According to the weather advisory, the heatwave will be in effect from Monday at 8am until Friday, March 13, 2026 at 8pm, with daytime temperatures forecast to reach the high 30s and even low 40 degrees Celsius in some areas of the Western Cape. At the weekend, temperatures will return to the mid to upper 20s. The spokesperson for the City’s Disaster Risk Management, Charlotte Powell, said the heat advisory by the weather service remains in place. “Thus far, there have been no heat-related emergencies reported to the Disaster Risk Management Centre, but we do want to remind the public to please continue doing everything possible to reduce their risk of heat-related impacts, and to pay special attention to the needs of children, the elderly, pets, and other vulnerable groups,” Powell said.
