Brakpan SAPS are investigating after two hijacking incidents in the Brenthurst area in two days, with one reported along Merriman Street on Monday and another on Tuesday along Curtis Street. Brakpan Heraldreports that during the second incident, a man and a woman were held captive overnight after falling victim to hijackers. According to police information, the man, travelling in a white Ford Fiesta, arrived at a residence along Curtis Street at about 19:45 to visit his friend.

The two were seated inside the vehicle, which was parked on the street, when two cars passed by: A grey Ford Focus and a grey-blue BMW. The BMW then stopped next to the Fiesta, and the man saw a number of individuals surrounding his car. One of them pointed a firearm at the victims and warned they would be shot if they screamed.

The hijackers moved the victims from the front seats to the back and forced their heads down. The man’s face was covered with a cloth. The pair was driven around before being forced into another vehicle and taken to an open field.

The victims were then driven to a field, moved into another vehicle, and taken to a house, where they were held for several hours. Two of their captors later transported them in the BMW to another house, stopping in an empty garage. The victims were given pies and water, which they did not consume.

They remained there until the following day when, between 11:00 and 12:00, they were instructed to get up and were separated. The woman was placed in the back of a vehicle, while the man was placed inside the boot. They were driven to a field and ordered to exit the vehicle quickly.

They were shown two houses and informed that their belongings would be found there. They were then told to hide. After their captors fled the scene, the victims sought assistance from members of the public. The man’s relatives later arrived to fetch them.
