Botswana rethinks long-standing rebuff of Diamond Alliance

South Africa is intensifying its diplomatic campaign to draw Botswana into a continental diamond alliance it has long resisted, signalling a potential shift in regional power dynamics within the global gems industry.

According to minutes of the South African Cabinet, Pretoria has secured an “in-principle” commitment from Botswana to participate at least as an observer in the African Diamond Producers Association (ADPA) for the first time since the group’s establishment nearly 20 years ago.
