Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson during her testimony at the parliamentary inquiry probing allegations of corruption within the criminal justice system. This is while theuMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP)is seeking to lay perjury charges with police against her and former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Advocate Shamila Batohi.

The Legal Practice Council (LPC) confirmed on Friday that it has received a request from Public Interest SA (PISA), a civil movement, to investigate Johnson’s fitness to continue as a practising lawyer. PISA approached the LPC on Thursday, seeking a disciplinary investigation into Johnson’s conduct, which was laid bare when she made confessions at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. “The LPC has received the letter from Public Interest SA (and) the matter has been referred to the relevant province (Gauteng), as investigations are conducted at provincial offices,” said LPC spokesperson Kabelo Letebele. PISA said it will also formally request the State Security Agency to review Johnson’s security vetting, seeking to revoke any Top Secret security clearance she presently holds, “having regard to the serious concerns that have emerged regarding her conduct”.
