he body of a 15-year-old boy who drowned in Chongwe River has been retrieved by Chongwe Municipal Council and Zambia Army Marine unit. Chongwe Fire Brigade received a distress call around 15:30 hours on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from a community member, reporting the drowning of the named boy, who was heading home from church with his younger brother when they decided to swim. Initial searches by Chongwe Fire Brigade and Zambia Police Service failed to locate the body.
This prompted the Army to involve its Marine Rescue Team, which successfully retrieved the victim’s body this morning. Chongwe Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Cecilia Musonda has revealed in a statement to the media. “The victim’s body has since been recovered and deposited to Chongwe District Hospital Mortuary and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” she said.
