TAKUNDA Benhura feels he can power CAPS United to their first league championship in a DECADE. The 24-year-old forward signed a two-year deal with the Green Machine yesterday and immediately declared that his mission was to win the championship. Makepekepe are marking a decade without being crowned champions, having last won the title in 2016 before going on a memorable adventure in the CAF Champions League.

Club president Farai Jere has been breathing life into his Green Machine in the past few months, in the biggest makeover at the club since the turn of the millennium. He has brought in many players, enough to make a team and a full complement of substitutes, since he started his major recruitment drive towards the end of last year. The arrival of coach Takesure Chiragwi from Ngezi Platinum Stars, about six months since a deal to take him to CAPS United collapsed at the last minute, has seen a number of his key players at Madamburo following suit.

They include veteran forward, Obriel Chirinda, and now Benhura has joined the Green Machine. “I want to help CAPS win the championship and also I want to win the top goal-scorer award,” said Benhura. Three years ago, he won the Golden Boot award with 13 goals for Ngezi Platinum Stars and was named among the Soccer Stars of the Year.
