A convoy of classic beach buggies and Volkswagen Beetles will travel scenic Cape routes on Sunday. Owners of classic beach buggies, Baja Bugs, Volkswagen Beetles, and other air-cooled VW vehicles from across Cape Town are invited to take part in the 170km convoy arranged by the Western Cape’s Wild Buggies Beach Buggy Club. The drive will take place through a scenic Cape Peninsula route, including Simon’s Town, Scarborough, Misty Cliffs and Ou Kaapse Weg on its next monthly cruise.

The club’s next monthly cruise,Wild Buggies Rise – Coast to Winelands,will take place on June 14. The drive will begin in Newlands before heading along the Cape Peninsula coastline through Simon’s Town, Scarborough and Misty Cliffs. The convoy will then continue over Ou Kaapse Weg towards Kommetjie, before linking into the Winelands leg of the journey.

Organisers say the route has been designed to showcase some of the Cape’s most iconic coastal and mountain driving roads, combining scenic routes with the club’s relaxed social driving style. Classic beach buggies and air-cooled Volkswagens will travel through Simon’s Town, Scarborough and Misty Cliffs as part of a 170km Cape Peninsula convoy. The convoy will gather at Foresters Arms in Newlands at 9am, before departing at 9.30am sharp.

A stop at Groot Constantia will include a coffee break and guided tour before the group continues along the remainder of the route. The day will conclude with a community lunch and social gathering at Constantia Rugby Club from 3pm onwards. Club president and founder Anton Kleyn said the group is built around relaxed, social driving and a shared passion for classic air-cooled Volkswagen vehicles.
