Australia Womenhave suffered a double blow ahead of the ODI series against India with both star all-rounderEllyse Perryand frontline pacer Kim Garth ruled out of the series due to quad strains. The Aussies are looking to bounce back from a recent T20I series defeat against thenewly-crowned ODI World Champions. Cricket Australia’s medical team has officially sidelined both players for the entire 50-over portion of the tour with veteran fast bowler Megan Schutt and Queensland teenager Lucy Hamilton being drafted into the squad as reinforcements.
Both Perry and Garth will undergo rehabilitation, and their availability for the multi-format-concluding Test match in Perth (starting March 6) will be assessed after the ODI series wraps up. The ODI series, which kicked off at Allan Border Field on Tuesday, carries immense weight for the hosts. Not only are they looking to re-establish dominance against an incredibly confident Indian side – who are playing their first ODIs since winning the Women’s ODI World Cup in late 2025 – but this series also marks the final white-ball assignment for Australian captain Alyssa Healy.
Healy, who is embarking on her farewell tour before retirement, has handed over the wicketkeeping gloves to Beth Mooney for this series to focus purely on her leadership and her opening partnership with Phoebe Litchfield. Sophie Molineux serves as Healy’s deputy, stepping into the vice-captaincy role as she prepares to usher in a new leadership era for Australian cricket.
