An alleged law enforcement officer implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has survived an attempted hit after gunmen opened fire on his vehicle outside his home in Boksburg on Thursday morning. The shooting targeting Wiandre Pretorius happened in Klapper Street near Boekenhout Street in Van Dyk Park at about 9.25 am. According to reports, Pretorius sent a voice note shortly after the attack, saying three armed men tried to hijack or kill him and fired multiple shots at his bakkie before he managed to escape.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi confirmed that an attempted murder case has been opened. “It is reported that the victim was about to drive into his residence when he was attacked by unknown suspects driving a white Toyota Vitz. “They fired shots at him before driving away.
The victim escaped unharmed, and the motive of the shooting is unknown at this stage. Investigations are underway,” said Nevhuhulwi. She added that Pretorius is currently in a place of safety.

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni said the victim’s vehicle was struck multiple times during the attack. “He was driving into his driveway when the suspects opened fire. He took cover.
The vehicle was shot at 16 times,” said Mthombeni. Pretorius was previously named during testimony at the Madlanga Commission by Witness D, Marius van der Merwe, who was later gunned down outside his home in December last year.
