A Northdale woman managed to send a text message to her husband minutes before losing consciousness after intruders threatened to cut her heart out during a violent house robbery, a police source said. The robbers allegedly attacked the woman with a knife and a bottle, assaulted her, tied her up in her bathroom and fled with about R100 000 in cash, jewellery and clothing. When her husband arrived after receiving the text message on Monday morning, he found her bound to the towel rack in the bathroom.
The house was in disarray, with clothing and other items scattered across the floor, the source said. The source said the woman had heard a noise in the yard but did not investigate, believing it to be her dog. She went to the bathroom and, on returning to her bedroom, found two men inside her home.
They forced the resident into the bedroom. One grabbed her from behind and threatened to cut her heart out. He was armed with a knife with a black handle, which he used to cut her on the head, neck, shoulders and chest.

“The resident was then taken to the bathroom, where she was tied to a towel rack with a black cord. She was assaulted and raped, barely managing to send a text message to her husband before losing consciousness,” said the source. The woman was taken to hospital for treatment.
uMgungundlovu District SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Sifiso Gwala confirmed that a case of house robbery and rape was being investigated. In a separate incident in Copesville, a 63-year-old woman sustained a head injury after a robber forced entry into her home last Thursday at about noon.
