Mufulira Wanderers Football Club President, George Katongo, has announced that armed robbers stole K181,000 in gate takings after attacking club staff at gunpoint in Mufulira. In a statement issued on Monday, Katongo informed sponsors, supporters and stakeholders that the robbery occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026, shortly after the Week 20 fixture against Nchanga Rangers at Shinde Stadium. “Armed robbers held members of staff at gunpoint and made away with cash amounting to K181,000, which had been realised from gate takings,” Katongo said.
He explained that the assailants also hijacked a Toyota Harrier, registration AIF 4314, belonging to the club’s Logistics Manager, Patrick Mwanza. The vehicle was intended for transporting the cash to Mopani Security for safekeeping. Gunshots were fired to disperse people nearby before the suspects fled the area.
Police were immediately alerted and launched a manhunt. Later the same evening, the stolen vehicle was found abandoned and recovered by police, although the robbers escaped with the cash. “The Zambia Police Service is currently working tirelessly to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice,” Katongo said.
