While doping substances and methods can go beyond the end of a sports career, they can cause serious health risks including organ damage, hormonal disorders and even death. Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC) through its anti-doping law is set to protect athletes and help combat doping in sports.

The Anti-Doping Bill 2025 (Bill No.18 of 2025) passed by Parliament on the 11th August was brought forth following a series of five doping cases recorded in Botswana. As revealed by Frederick Seno from the National anti-Doping Coordinating Office, the purpose of the Bill was to domesticate the 2005 UNESCO International Convention against doping in sport to the local environment.
