Wartburg Kirchdorf School’s head girl for 2025, Angelika Rencken, was first in the uMgungundlovu district in the National Senior Certificate matric examinations. Speaking to Greytown Gazette, Angelika, who earned eight distinctions, said she hadn’t been surprised by her end of year results as her marks throughout high school an in matric had always been fairly consistent. “That said, the long wait between completing final exams and receiving your results is incredibly nerve-wracking,” she added, “and there’s a lot of time for doubt to build up, so when I did see the results, a lot of stress and pressure was relieved, and I was honestly just very grateful.
“A turning point for me was understanding why my work mattered. “Deciding what I wanted to study gave my learning direction and made the effort feel meaningful, which made it a lot easier to put in the effort to ultimately achieve my results. “Alongside that, my faith was a constant source of strength.
“Trusting in God’s grace helped me stay grounded and calm, even when the pressure was high.” Angelika, who is planning to study medicine at the University of Pretoria, said she was excited to embark on the next chapter and to see what life has in store for her. Asked what advice she would give to the class of 2026, she said that it was important to start early. “Grade 12 is a demanding year that comes with a lot of pressure, and giving yourself enough time to prepare thoroughly can save you a great deal of unnecessary stress and anxiety,” Angelika said. “It makes the year not only more manageable, but even enjoyable.
