– The African National Congress’ (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) has announced, this evening, June 9, that Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Finance MMC, Councillor Hassan Mako, is its Executive Mayoral candidate for the Emfuleni Local Municipality. Mako is set to replace former Executive Mayor, Sipho Radebe who was fired by the ruling party last week following a disastrous term of office. “The African National Congress (ANC) Gauteng Provincial Task Team (PTT) is pleased to announce Councillor Hassan Mako as its Executive Mayoral Candidate for the Emfuleni Local Municipality,” Mzi Khumalo ANC Gauteng Provincial Spokesperson said.

He added that this decision follows a process undertaken by the ANC National Office Bearers. “It involved rigorous interviews after receiving three nominations from the ANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Committee.” Khumalo said that Mako brings with him extensive experience as both a community development worker and Ward Councillor for Ward 37 who was later appointed as the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Finance in Emfuleni. “Comrade Mako rose through the ranks of the ANC Youth League, serving as Branch Secretary, Branch Chairperson, and ANCYL Zonal Chairperson.

Furthermore, he served as an ANC Branch Executive Committee member and an ANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Committee member. At the recently held regional conference, Mako was elected ANC Sedibeng Regional Treasurer. “The ANC remains committed to fixing local government and building an economy that works for all.” In the African National Congress (ANC), a Provincial Task Team (PTT) is an interim, appointed structure established by the National Executive Committee (NEC).
