CRISTIAN ROMERO will not play again for Tottenham this season – and has been spotted hobbling in a knee brace. The Spurs skipper, 27, is set to miss at least six weeks with an injury sustained at Sunderland over the weekend. Romero had to be substituted 20 minutes from time as Spurs lost 1-0 at the Stadium of Light.

After receiving treatment for eight minutes, Romero had to be replaced by Kevin Danso. The defender was in tears as he made his way off the pitch – and SunSport exclusive footage shows he was hobbling outside a specialist medical centre earlier on Monday.

Romero will now face a race against time to be fit for his country’s World Cup opener. Argentina are set to kick off their defence of the trophy on June 16 against Algeria. Romero has made 32 appearances for Spurs this season, including 23 in the Premier League.

Despite signing a new long-term contract last summer, Romero has been linked with a move away from North London. His father Victor recently discussed the World Cup winner’s future.
