Airtel Malawi has reaffirmed its commitment to creating employment opportunities for young people and advancing Malawi’s industrialization agenda in line with the Malawi 2063 vision. This follows the launch of Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) and 5G technology in Lilongwe. Speaking during the launch, Airtel Managing Director Aashish Dutt said the introduction of these technologies marks more than just a network upgrade, rather it serves as enablers of social economic transformation.
Dutt highlighted that Airtel’s VoLTE technology offers crystal-clear call quality, faster call connections, and the ability for users to browse the internet while making voice calls on supported smartphones. He added that the new 5G network brings ultra-low latency and the capability to power innovations such as smart cities, digital learning, and e-health solutions. Minister of Communication, Information and Technology, Shadrick Namalomba, commended Airtel Malawi for expanding access to digital platforms, noting that such initiatives reflect a nation determined to become connected, competitive, and globally ready.
“The government is ready to support digital initiatives that create employment opportunities,” he said. Namalomba also urged telecommunications companies, including Airtel, to ensure that smartphones become more affordable and accessible to all Malawians in order to boost digital penetration.
