The Ministry of Planning and Development hosted the signing ceremony of the aide-mémoire under the realignment of the Compact between the Government of Mozambique and the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Maputo, on Wednesday, 29 April 2026. The signing ceremony was attended by the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Mozambique, Abigail L. Dressel, Millenium Challenge Corporation-MCC Resident Country Director in Mozambique Joel Wiegert, Millenium Challenge Account-Mozambique Executive Director, Augusta Maita Mendes, as well as officials from Ministry of Planning and Development, Millennium Challenge Corporation, Millenium Challenge Account-Mozambique and media representatives.

“The signing of this aide-mémoire marks a firm step towards deepening cooperation between the Governments of Mozambique and the United States of America, aligned with national development priorities set out in our National Development Strategy 2025–2044 and the Government’s Five-Year Programme 2025–2029.” MCC Acting Deputy Vice President for Africa Alicia Robson-Morgan said: “Although the bridge over the Licungo River and the Mocuba bypass remain the core activity under the Transport Project, we are prioritising the Nacala Corridor, improving access roads to the port, which are essential for the flow of critical minerals.” “With the signing of this aide-mémoire, we are strengthening our joint work in key areas such as critical minerals, infrastructure and agriculture.
