In a statement issued Tuesday August 4, 2026, President Hichilema said reports of disruptions to campaign activities were deeply concerning and should be addressed urgently. “Let it be clear that violence, intimidation, or lawlessness by any political party, candidate, or supporter will not be tolerated,” President Hichilema said. He stressed that every political party had a constitutional and lawful right to campaign within the period allocated by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

“Anyone who attempts to disrupt or prevent that process is breaking the law and must face the full consequences,” the Head of State said. Hichilema called on political leaders to take responsibility for the conduct of their supporters during the final days of campaigning. “We therefore call upon all political parties and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, responsibly, and within the confines of the law,” he said.
