Government, through the Ministry of Mines and Minerals Development, says it has recorded significant progress in its nationwide aerial mineral mapping programme, with the survey now 55 percent complete. Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary, Hapenga Kabeta, said the high-resolution airborne geophysical survey was transforming Zambia’s geological database and unlocking new opportunities for mineral exploration, particularly in previously under-explored areas. Kabeta noted that the survey was a critical component of Zambia’s broader strategy to position itself as a leading destination for mining investment.

He said the country’s vast copper reserves, coupled with emerging critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium and nickel, placed Zambia in a strong position to support the global energy transition. He made the remarks during a courtesy call by Swiss Ambassador to Zambia, Stéphane Rey, at the Ministry headquarters on Friday. Kabeta further highlighted Zambia’s favourable investment climate, citing policy stability, transparency and the protection of private investments as key factors attracting both large-scale and small-scale mining ventures.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Rey expressed confidence in Zambia’s investment prospects, describing the country’s strategic location, abundant natural resources and growing economy as major attractions for Swiss investors. He also informed Kabeta of an upcoming visit to Zambia by Swiss State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Helene Budliger Artieda, a mission expected to further strengthen diplomatic and economic relations between Zambia and Switzerland.
