An alleged hate crime is being investigated after an acid bomb was reportedly thrown at Masjid Muslim worshippers following prayers in Agatha Street near Adam’s Circle in Tzaneen yesterday. Letaba Heraldreportsthat, according to information circulating within the community, the incident occurred shortly after congregants had concluded their prayers and were leaving the premises when the device was thrown in their direction. One person sustained injuries and received medical attention.

The motive for the attack remains unclear at this stage, but community members have raised concerns that the incident may have been religiously motivated. Sergeant Garvey Mathye of Tzaneen SAPS confirmed that a case has been opened for investigation. “We have opened a case and investigations are ongoing.

Once we have more information, we will share it with theHeraldand an update will be published,” said Mathye. Police have not yet confirmed whether the matter is being treated as a hate crime. Authorities are urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward.
