Getting yourTrinity Audioplayer ready…Kigali, Rwanda, 29 October 2025– The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has urged African countries to accelerate the transformation of their agrifood systems, emphasizing that the Kampala Declaration must mark a decisive shift from rhetoric to results. These were remarks on behalf of Dr. Abebe Haile-Gabriel, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Africa, delivered by Mr. Koffi Amegbeto, Senior Policy Officer at FAO’s Regional Office for Africa, during the official opening of the 21st Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Partnership Platform and the 16th Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (ADFNS).Mr.

Amegbeto noted that the Kampala Declaration represents a turning point as Africa transitions “from Maputo to Malabo, and now to Kampala: from commitment to action.”“Over the past two decades, Africa’s agricultural transformation agenda has journeyed through the Maputo and Malabo Declarations. These frameworks mobilized strong political will but fell short of realizing their ambitions due to weak implementation systems, limited domestic financing, and fragmented coordination.”He emphasized that the Kampala Declaration must renew Africa’s resolve to build just, resilient, and inclusive agrifood systems that generate jobs, wealth, and nutrition for all.Mr.

Amegbeto outlined three key priorities for achieving the vision of the Kampala Declaration:“The success of Africa’s agrifood transformation will depend on how Member States take full ownership of their National Agrifood System Investment Plans (NAFSIPs) and align them with the Kampala CAADP framework,” he said. While external support can catalyze progress, he stressed that national leadership, accountability, and inter-ministerial coherence are essential for sustained transformation.FAO, he added, “stands ready to continue supporting governments with evidence-based planning, monitoring, and policy coherence to ensure that each country’s path reflects its unique context and priorities.”Mr.
