The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested and charged a police officer stationed at Livingstone Central Police Station for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences and theft involving a total of K7,200. The suspect, Imangolwa Chibunda, 30, has been charged with one count of obtaining money by false pretences contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia, and one count of theft contrary to Section 272 of the same Act. According to the ACC, the first charge relates to an incident that allegedly occurred between January 1 and March 31, 2024, in Livingstone District.
It is alleged that Mr. Chibunda falsely presented himself as an agent of Elias Phiri, the owner of a house in Maramba Township, and obtained K700 from Nyemba Nyemba under the pretext that the money would be remitted as rental payment to the property owner. In the second count, Chibunda is accused of stealing K6,500 from Nyemba on February 24, 2024.
The ACC alleges that the police officer obtained a loan of K8,000 on behalf of Mr. Nyemba through an online lending facility without fully disclosing the amount that had been secured. It is further alleged that he subsequently transferred K6,500 from the loan proceeds to his personal mobile money account.
