Yet another man dies after he was hit by a goods train in Chikanga, Mutare, while walking along the railway line in what is suspected to be a suicide.

This railway accident claimed the life of a 24-year-old man on Tuesday morning when he was hit by a Mozambique-bound cargo train.

The victim, Morelife Manyawu, suffered fatal injuries upon impact and died instantly at the scene.

Police Confirm The Fatal Railway Accident Manicaland police representative Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the tragic event, disclosing that the freight train originated from Marondera and was en route to Mozambique.

ALSO READ: 78-Year-Old Retired Man Ordered To Pay Backdated Maintenance For His 2 Adult Children The train was being operated by Thomas Flavio, an employee of Machipanda Station in Manica Province at the time of the accident. “As the train approached the Jeff Road railway crossing in Chikanga, the driver noticed the pedestrian walking along the tracks,” explained Assistant Inspector Chinyoka. “Despite repeated horn warnings, the individual remained on the rails and was subsequently struck by the moving train, causing him to be thrown clear of the tracks. ” Emergency Response and Investigation The freight train required a considerable distance to come to a complete stop after the collision.

The operator immediately exited the locomotive to check on the victim, only to discover the young man had succumbed to his injuries.

Local authorities from Chikanga ZRP were promptly notified and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

This is the fourth railway accident in the past 2 months.

The police are raising their concerns as the man should have stopped when the operator blew the horn as a warning sign.

Other reports share that the man willingly jumped in front of the train.
