His performances inspired countless young cricketers, and his fearless spirit made him a fan favourite.

However, Olonga also made headlines for his strong moral stance.

During the 2023 World Cup, he and other players protested against the lack of democracy in Zimbabwe cricket.

That moment marked the end of his Chevrons journey, sealing his place in sporting history.

Henry Olonga. image via Instagram @henrykolonga Chevrons legend clarifies citizenship confusion Olonga recently addressed growing confusion over his citizenship status.

Speaking online, he explained the situation in detail.

He said, “Zimbabwe decided for me not the other way around. ” Olonga revealed that when his passport expired in 2006, Zimbabwe refused to ratify his citizenship.

This came despite him previously renouncing Kenya and Zambia, where he was born.

Authorities had first forced him to give up other nationalities before taking away his last option.

That decision left him stateless for nine years.

Olonga stressed that it was never his wish to stop being Zimbabwean.

However, Zimbabwean laws do not allow dual nationality, leaving him shut out.

He urged people to understand the facts before criticising him.

Olonga ended by calling for more kindness and positivity online.

What Zimbabweans say After the Chevrons legend clarified his citizenship confusion, some fans expressed their feelings in the comments. @Zarah Ok “Henry, We, who understand what you and your brother Victor did to put Zimbabwe on the world map love you and to us you are Zimbabwean.

Your name should be among the names of the great people of Zimbabwe.

Do not stress about ignorant clueless people.

Much love and respect 🙏 ❤️” @Lindsay Kamffer-Fotheringham “We’ve all been through that one way or the other.

You don’t need a Zimbabwean passport to always feel that in your heart.

Don’t ever feel you should explain.

The BBC should have done their research first!

You will always be our Zimbabwean hero Henry! ” @Mbonisi Mlotshwa “Continue to walk in love Henry – no matter what.

Hopefully one day you will be able to return ‘home’. ” @Kelly Anne Natalie Taylor “We love you Henry 😍.

Big loss for zimbabwe 🇿🇼 but not by your choice how do people not know that 🤔🙄” Follow Us on Google News for Immediate Updates
