The movement of trucks along the N3 has been prohibited as authorities close more sections of the major route, amid worsening snow and hazardous driving conditions in KwaZulu-Natal. The N3 between Estcourt and Harrismith has now been closed, with authorities intensifying the province’s Snowfall Response Plan as heavy snow and icy conditions continue to affect key routes. The decision to halt the movement of trucks along the N3 is aimed at preventing congestion and reducing the risk of motorists becoming trapped should conditions deteriorate further.
The Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI), following consultations with the N3 Toll Concession and the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), announced the closure of several routes as authorities respond to the severe weather. Motorists have been urged to delay their journeys, while snow chasers are prohibited from travelling to affected areas. Authorities are continuing to monitor conditions as heavy snowfall and freezing temperatures create hazardous driving conditions across parts of the province.
