The touching reunion marks the end of an ordeal that began when Singhini, a Malawian national, was forced to leave South Africa amid tensions affecting foreign nationals. After weeks of uncertainty, long-distance travel and an outpouring of public support,Stephen Black Lion Singhini and his beloved dog, Fireman,have finally arrived safely at their home in Karonga, Malawi. The pair’s final leg of the journey proved to be their most challenging.

Travelling from Lilongwe to Karonga, Singhini and Fireman relied on lifts from two long-distance haulage trucks as they navigated severely damaged roads before reaching their destination. Unable to bear the thought of leaving behind Fireman, the Africanis dog who had been his constant companion for six years, Singhini’s story sparked an overwhelming response from animal lovers and members of the public. St Francis Animal Rescue stepped in to ensure the pair would be reunited, raising funds to cover Fireman’s vaccinations, microchipping, travel crate, veterinary care and flight to Malawi.

Beloved dog and owner Stephen reunited with family in Malawi. Sharing the happy news, the organisation announced: “Singhini and his beloved dog, Fireman, have finally reached their destination after long, hard days of travelling.” Although Fireman was able to fly to Malawi, the journey did not end there. The rescue organisation said the final stretch from Lilongwe tested both man and dog as they made their way north through difficult conditions before finally arriving home.

“Happily, their adventure is over, and they are now safely at home with Stephen’s mother and daughter in Karonga. This is a happy reunion, and we wish the Singhini family all the best as a new chapter begins,” the organisation said. The rescue also thanked the many donors and supporters whose generosity helped make the reunion possible, describing the outcome as the result of collective kindness and compassion.
