Mozambique: Tete brothers build multi-cultivator and motorcycle using recycled materials

According to the inventors, the low-cost multi-cultivator can prepare in a single day an area of land that would otherwise require several people working with hand hoes for at least seven days. The brothers, Alex and Israel, also designed and built the motorcycle using recycled materials. They said the lack of resources for agricultural production, as well as the inability to buy their own means of transport, inspired the projects.

The Tete Provincial Government said it will oversee the patenting process for both innovations through the Tete campus of the Púnguè University. According to Miramar, one of the brothers is in the third year of an Electrical Engineering degree, while the other has no formal academic qualifications. The provincial government said the latter will initially receive a scholarship to study at the Alberto Cassimo Institute for Vocational Training and Labour Studies (IFPELAC). In addition to receiving support and mentoring, the two young inventors are expected to take part in this year’s Young Creative competition.
