Global online learning platform, Coursera, has announced a US$100 million strategic investment in LearnVector, a new artificial intelligence (AI)-focused education technology company founded by AI pioneer and Coursera co-founder Andrew Ng. The investment gives Coursera a one-third ownership stake in LearnVector and forms part of the company’s strategy to expand AI-powered personalised learning while broadening access to education, reportsTechafricanews. Coursera said the investment would support the development of AI-driven learning experiences designed to provide learners with personalised, one-on-one instruction that adapts to individual learning styles and tracks progress until mastery is achieved.
The company said the move reflects its belief that artificial intelligence will expand, rather than replace, the market for learning by making education more accessible, effective and engaging. LearnVector is developing an AI-native learning platform based on Ng’s work in agentic AI. Unlike conventional chatbots that provide quick answers to users’ questions, the platform aims to deliver continuous, personalised tutoring tailored to each learner’s needs.
“AI will be the greatest force in accelerating human development, if we do it right. Rather than replace people or make learning obsolete, AI grows the demand for trusted learning,” Ng said. He said LearnVector’s goal is to transform education from the traditional one-to-many model into a one-to-one learning experience capable of helping learners build skills, advance their careers and achieve mastery in a chosen subject.

Coursera said it is exploring commercial collaborations with LearnVector that would combine the startup’s AI technology with Coursera’s catalogue of accredited educational content, enterprise and higher education partnerships, and data on learning outcomes. According to the company, the partnership has the potential to serve more than 300 million learners and 12,000 enterprise customers through highly personalised educational experiences. Coursera Chief Executive Officer, Greg Hart, said the investment builds on the company’s broader strategy of embedding artificial intelligence across its platform to improve learner engagement, retention and outcomes.
“Andrew is one of the world’s foremost experts in AI, and his founding vision for LearnVector is a throughline of Coursera’s own mission to provide universal access to world-class learning,” Hart said. He added that the company expected the first LearnVector products to be introduced in early 2027 as part of efforts to make personalised AI-assisted learning available to a wider global audience. Under the agreement, Coursera’s US$100 million investment represents approximately one-third ownership of LearnVector on a fully diluted basis.
