President Hakainde Hichilema has reiterated the government’s commitment to prioritising student welfare, announcing an increase in the student accommodation allowance from K3,850 to K5,850 with immediate effect. And President Hichilema has called for the restoration of the University of Zambia (UNZA) and emphasised the government’s dedication to also resolve the institution’s lecturers and staff issues. He also underscored the progress made in maintaining the sanitation improvements, initiated by the government through Zambia National Service (ZNS) stressing that students are responsible for sustaining these efforts.

The Head of State made these remarks when he addressed UNZA students at State House today. “Please look after that asset. I want you to be responsible, exercise responsibility in taking care of the infrastructure,” he emphasised.

President Hichilema also highlighted that his government is working tirelessly to ensure the country’s economy is managed effectively at all levels. “I take you as my greatest strength, when I remember your welfare, I decided to bring those under my command to benefit the students,” he noted.And, Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commander, Maliti Solochi, stated that following the President’s directive to address sanitation issues at the University of Zambia, the Zambia National Service and other stakeholders have completed the necessary works at the institution on behalf of the government.Lieutenant General Solochi, emphasised that the sanitation problem has been resolved in accordance with the President’s directive, and he called for continued maintenance to ensure the sustainability of the government’s efforts.Earlier, the student leadership expressed their appreciation to the government for the numerous initiatives that have been implemented, including the sanitation improvements at the university.University of Zambia Student Union President, Mwanto Kabaso, and his Vice President Jemimah Mwaba, highlighted the positive impact of President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership and government policies, such as free education and student allowances.Mr Kabaso also called for an increase in student meal allowances from over 3,000 to over 5,000 Kwacha.Meanwhile, Franco Mwiinga a third year Computer Science student at the University of Zambia expressed joy emphasising that President Hakainde Hichilema announcement is a true commitment to great leadership. “I take you as my greatest strength, when I remember your welfare, I decided to bring those under my command to benefit the students,” he noted.
