Mozambique: Nu Metro temporarily closes, leaving Maputo without a cinema

The information was made public through a statement shared by the venue’s management on Wednesday (29 July). “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the cinema is temporarily closed. We appreciate your understanding and sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement reads.

Nu Metro Maputo was Mozambique’s main cinema venue, a multiplex with four screening rooms, hosting national and international premieres, as well as children’s films, and attracting moviegoers of all ages. The closure leaves the capital city without an operational cinema. Nu Metro Maputo is part of Nu Metro Theatres, a major South African cinema chain. Its only branch in Mozambique is located in a mall in the capital city, Maputo.
