President Advocate Duma Boko viewing the 1 305.4-carat diamond recovered at Karowe Diamond Mine. Speaking during a Cabinet Meeting on July 29, Lucara Botswana Managing Director, Ms Naseem Lahri said the diamond was the 10th stone weighing more than 1 000 carats recovered at the mine since operations began.
She said that the latest discovery reinforced Lucara’s position as a leading producer of large, exceptional diamonds and demonstrated the continued strong demand for these rare stones in the luxury market. While the sale of diamonds has plummeted, Minister of Minerals and Energy, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo, stated that it was pleasing to note that the diamond market was on a rebound and receptive of the large stones, and the pricing also quite buoyant.
