Search teams have been deployed along Ngwenya and Crocodile Roads in the Komatipoort area following reports of one or more lions roaming near the roadway. Lowvelderreportsthat according to Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube, agency rangers have been searching the area since the animals were first seen on Tuesday (July 28). “Our rangers are on the ground searching for the lion or lions that were spotted on the side of the road.

Since the initial sighting, they have not been seen again,” said Shungube. “We believe they may have escaped from the Kruger National Park, and we are pleading with members of the public not to attempt to catch or approach the animals. Instead, they should immediately contact the relevant authorities, and our teams will respond.

He added that the agency has previously succeeded in capturing wandering lions and returning them to their natural habitat. Kruger National Park general manager for communications and marketing Rey Thakhuli confirmed they are aware of the reported sightings outside the park, noting that the MTPA is leading the operation. “So far, there are no new confirmed reports.
