Jenkins and Radebe to perform alongside Ladysmith Black Mambazo

The traditional sounds of Maskandi will be heard at venues across the United Kingdom when David “Qadasi” Jenkins and Maqhinga Radebe take to the stage this month. The duo, who perform together as Qadasi and Maqhinga, will be joining Grammy winners, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, on a tour to celebrated the 40th anniversary of Paul Simon’s iconic album,Graceland. The album won the 1987 Grammy for album of the year and is frequently cited as one of the best albums in history.

It includes the international hits,Homeless, You Can Call Me AlandDiamonds of the Souls of her Shoes. Speaking toWeekend Witness, Jenkins, said: “Ladysmith Black Mambazo wanted to include songs from the album during their international tour this year. They contacted Maqhinga and me to ask whether we would be interested in joining them on those songs.

We were absolutely delighted to be invited. “We are all passionate about traditional South African music, and this is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate South African music and the incredible legacy of Ladysmith Black Mambazo and ‘Graceland’.” The highlight of the tour will be a performance in London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, August 5. Other venues include: the Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden on Sunday, August 2; the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea on Thursday, August 6; St George’s in Bristol on Friday, August 7; the Band on the Wall in Manchester on Saturday, August 8; and The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh on Sunday, August 9. Asked which of Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s songs they loved most Jenkins and Radebe said it was hard to choose as they had so many, but at the top of the list are Homeless, Nomathemba, and Amaphoyisa.
