A 21-year-old motorcycle rider is admitted to Petauke District Hospital after he was allegedly attacked and robbed of his motorcycle by unknown assailant in Petauke District.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba, confirmed the incident to the media saying it occurred on July 31, 2026, around 20:00 hours in Hillside Compound in Chief Kalindawalo’s area.
Mr Mweemba identified the victim as Killion Phiri, 21, of Tasala 10 Compound in Chief Kalindawalo’s area.
He said the matter was reported to Petauke Police Station at about 20:30 hours by the victim, who stated that he was attacked by an unknown man whom he could identify if seen again.
Mr Mweemba explained that the victim, a motorcycle taxi operator, had been hired by the suspect from Petauke Turn-off to Hillside Compound for a fare of K30.
“Upon reaching Hillside Compound, the suspect asked the rider to stop before allegedly striking him on the head several times with a suspected metal bar, “he said.
Mr. Mweemba said the suspect later fled with a black Gatoma motorcycle valued at K25,000. The engine and chassis numbers of the stolen motorcycle have not yet been established.
The Eastern Province Police Chief said the victim sustained multiple cuts to the head but managed to walk to Petauke Police Station, where he reported the matter.
Mr Mweemba said the victim was issued with a police medical report form and rushed to Petauke District Hospital, where he was admitted for treatment.
He added that investigations into the aggravated robbery have been instituted, while efforts to trace the suspect and recover the stolen motorcycle are underway.
