By A Correspondent – The late former Zimbabwe Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees Association (ZEPPDRA) Chairperson, Victor Kuretu, has been declared a National Hero Harare provincial Affairs Minister Charles Tawengwa, made the announcement at the Kuretu family home in Mufakose, Harare, on Saturday “I worked with Kuretu for so long, including during my tenure at the Harare City Council We also served together in the Finance Committee After due consideration, His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent me here to announce that he has conferred national hero status on Kuretu This is the message I am holding here We are now waiting for you to advise us on burial arrangements,” Tawengwa said ZANU-PF Harare Province Chairperson Goodwills Masimirembwa and Politburo Member Senator Omega Hungwe also described Kuretu as a dedicated nationalist “We have lost a committed leader As Harare Province, we say Kuretu was one of us, whom we worked with so closely,” Masimirembwa said “We are mourning one of our own As ZEPEDRA Chairperson, he was so focused and remained steadfast in his work,” Hungwe added The family expressed gratitude for the national hero honour Kuretu died on August 7 at the age of 83 He is survived by his wife, Rita Kuretu, eleven children, and thirty-seven grandchildren Mourners are gathered at House Number 9793 Jiri Crescent, Mufakose, Harare Burial arrangements will be announced in due course Source: Zimeye All Zim News is a central hub for all things Zimbabwean, curating news from across the country so no story is missed Alongside aggregation, our team of nationwide reporters provides real-time, on-the-ground coverage Stay informed and connected — reach us at admin@allzimnews.com.
