Solwezi Council cautions against burning domestic waste

Solwezi Municipal Council Senior Public Health Inspector, Mwambwa Jere has urged the residents to desist from burning domestic waste as practice is illegal and a public health hazard. Mr Jere says burning of waste causes air pollution and can affect children, old people and those with asthma and other respiratory illnesses. Some residents have complained of smoke entering their houses at night saying they struggle to sleep.Doreen Kaindu of Zambia Compound has appealed to the local authority to heighten sensitization on the dangers of smoke inhalation and the effects of burning waste in residential areas.
