Tuskegee University has implemented a controversial dress code banning bonnets, slippers, and durags on campus, alongside strict phone usage rules. A university has banned students from wearingbonnets, bedroom slippers, and duragson campus. Students are also prohibited from wearing revealing clothing.

Students are further urged to put their phones down during classes. The university, situated in Alabama and part of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities, or HBCU, stipulated that the dress rule also applies to students using dining spaces. The American-based Tuskegee University has been praised for taking such a firm stand.

In a letter to parents of incoming students, Tuskegee President Dr Mark A Brown, said students must keep their phones off in class unless otherwise allowed by their professor. He warned that the university is also tightening attendance rules in the institution’spush for accountability. Regarding the dress code, HBCU Gameday reported that Brown stated that students should dress in business suits and suitable shoes as they would for meetings and other professional occasions.
