Mozambique: Government disburses 74 million dollars for business recovery

The amount was revealed by President Daniel Chapo in the port city of Nacala, in the northern province of Nampula, during the presentation ceremony for the 5th Edition of the Catalytic Fund (Business Recovery Fund), which is part of the Sustainable Rural Economy Program (MozRural). According to Chapo, all approved companies have already received the first tranche of funding and those that have successfully completed the initial implementation phase are scheduled to receive the second and final disbursement later this July. “Our goal as a government is to produce more, export more, and consume more, generating wealth not only for the funding recipients but also combating hunger among the Mozambican people and boosting exports”, he said.

Under the 5th Edition of the Business Recovery Fund, the government provided funding to 93 companies affected by cyclones Chido and Jude, as well as other extreme weather events that struck the northern provinces of Nampula and Cabo Delgado, and central province of Tete. Of the total number of beneficiary companies, 44 are from Nampula, 28 from Cabo Delgado, and 21 from Tete. For this edition, nearly four million dollars was mobilized, allowing for an average funding amount of approximately 42,000 dollars per company.

Beyond the recovery of businesses affected by natural disasters, the government believes that the funding will enable investments in infrastructure improvements, the acquisition of vehicles and equipment, and the purchase of inputs, as well as the maintenance and creation of jobs. During the ceremony, checks were also awarded under the 6th Edition of the Catalytic Fund, part of the Sustainable Rural Economy Program (MozRural), which was launched in August 2025. “Across all editions of the mechanism, the government has made approximately 74 million dollars in grants available to the national private sector, resources that are already yielding results for Mozambican companies and small-scale producers”, the President said.

Chapo called for greater speed and transparency in fund management, instructing the entities responsible for the program to accelerate disbursements. “We want to guide the entities managing this business recovery program toward greater transparency and speed in the disbursement of allocated funds, to enable companies to carry out their activities without constraints,” he said.
