GU Celebrates Double Glory

Gaborone United will salute its title-winning teams, standout performers and club legends at a night celebrating a landmark season. The ceremony follows a successful 2025/26 season in which the women’s team won the national league title and the men’s side lifted the FNB Premiership trophy. The men also reached the Orange FA Cup semi-finals.

Club spokesperson Tshepo Molwane said the event will thank players and officials for their contributions during the campaign. “The awards that will be held on Friday are meant to thank the players for their good work during the 2025/26 season for both the women and men,” Molwane said. He said the club would have preferred to reward every player but will recognise those adjudged to have excelled.

“If it was possible, we were going to give them awards all, but now it is impossible as we are going to award those who performed best as per adjudications,” he said. The ceremony will also remember club figures who made lasting contributions to Gaborone United. Molwane said the club will recognise the late John Matsheng, who will be buried on Saturday, and the late Degree Dlamini, the club’s long-serving manager who died last month.

Former player Tshepo Maikano, who recently retired after an 11-year spell with the club, will also receive special recognition. “We want to thank him for his commitment to the club,” Molwane said. Award categories for the men’s and women’s teams include Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, Goalkeeper of the Season, Most Disciplined Player and Supporters’ Player of the Season.
