Gareth Jay, Regional Sales Director for Africa at Epson, shares insights on the future of smart living and technology. The way South Africans live and work has changed dramatically in recent years. Dining rooms have become offices, living rooms have transformed into entertainment hubs, and small businesses are increasingly looking for technology that can keep pace with flexible ways of working without driving up costs.
It was against this backdrop that Epson recently unveiled its latest innovation suite, introducing its new Lifestudio projector range alongside next-generation EcoTank printers for home, home office and business users. The launch showcased the company’s continued investment in technology designed to make everyday life simpler, more efficient and more sustainable. According to Gareth Jay, Regional Sales Director for Africa at Epson, the company’s latest innovations were inspired by the changing way people interact with technology at home and at work.
“Today’s home and business environments have changed significantly,” says Jay. “Homes are no longer just living spaces, and offices are no longer the only places where work happens. People are looking for technology that fits more naturally into flexible, multi-purpose spaces and helps them work, create and enjoy entertainment with less complexity.” Epson’s Lifestudio projector: Transforming home entertainment with immersive 4K display technology.

He explains that this thinking informed the development of Epson’s latest portfolio, which includes the Lifestudio projector range, the latest EcoTank printers and Epson Creative Corner. “The new Lifestudio projector range, next-generation EcoTank printers for home and business, and Epson Creative Corner all respond to the same shift: customers want solutions that are easy to use, efficient and relevant to the way they live and work today.” As hybrid work continues to shape consumer behaviour, Jay says South Africans are demanding technology that adapts to multiple environments rather than serving a single purpose. “South Africans are making more out of the spaces they have, where a living room may need to become a workspace by day and an entertainment space in the evening.” To support this shift, Epson’s Lifestudio projectors combine 4K display technology, integrated Bose sound and built-in Google TV™ with Gemini, creating an immersive entertainment experience that extends beyond the traditional television. Research conducted by Epson across South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Morocco and Türkiye found that more than half of respondents preferred large-screen projectors over conventional televisions, highlighting the growing demand for cinematic home entertainment.
