Veteran IFP MPL Ncamisile Nkwanyana dies

Long-serving KwaZulu-Natal Legislature MPL Ncamisile Nkwanyana (72), who was the chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Participation and Petitions, died on Friday at her home in Stanger. Her death came as a shock after what the IFP described as a normal day of participating in Legislature work, bringing to an abrupt end a public service career spanning decades. In a notice issued by the Office of the Speaker, Nontembeko Boyce, the KZN Legislature conveyed its condolences to Nkwanyana’s family and the IFP, which she represented in the provincial legislature from 2012 until her death.

The IFP said Nkwanyana had just attended the party’s National Council meeting earlier last week. “Her passing has come as a great shock to the party and all who knew her,” IFP national spokesperson Mkhuleko Hlengwa said. A nurse by training, Nkwanyana served for many years as a nurse at Stanger Hospital.

Before joining the KZN Legislature, Nkwanyana served as an IFP executive committee councillor in the iLembe District Municipality. Within the party, she occupied several leadership positions, including provincial chairperson of the IFP Women’s Brigade and IFP national executive committee member. IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa also paid tribute to Nkwanyana.
