Two suspects have been arrested after counterfeit goods worth an estimated R174,000 were seized during a law enforcement operation in the Johannesburg CBD. The joint operation, conducted on June 9, involved the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, Commercial Crime Unit, Public Order Policing (POP), and brand protectors. Authorities inspected two stores in central Johannesburg and confiscated 116 counterfeit Steve Madden handbags.

The two suspects were arrested for allegedly dealing in counterfeit goods. Police also arrested four undocumented foreign nationals for contravening the Immigration Act. According to police, the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat the sale and distribution of counterfeit, contraband and illicit goods, which harm legitimate businesses, consumers and the economy.
